yellowstone to yukon

grant award: $100,000; year awarded: 2021

This project takes place in the Nez Perce Tribe Territory, which spans about 17 million acres in the Pacific Northwest and serves as critical habitat for ungulates, raptors, carnivores, and fish. Wildlife corridors in this area are essential for species migrating north and upslope due to shrinking habitat from climate change. Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, in partnership with the Nez Perce Tribe, will mainstream a landscape-level restoration and design approach centered on both climate adaptation and cultural survival. This approach will be amplified using a toolkit that evaluates restoration planting designs based on cultural and climate performance.
